The first and highest, the most precious of all good works is faith in Christ.
When the Jews asked St John: "What shall we do that we may work the works of God?" He answered: "This is the work of God, that ye believe on
Him Whom He hath sent." When we hear or preach this word, we hasten over it and deem it a very little thing and easy to do, whereas we ought
here to pause a long time and to ponder it well. For in this work all good works must be done and receive from it the inflow of their goodness,
like a loan. This we must put bluntly, that men may understand it.

Complete-Works-of-Swami-Vivekananda
In the four volumes (Now in nine volumes — Ed.) of the works of the Swami Vivekananda which
are to compose the present edition, we have what is not only a gospel to the world at large, but
also to its own children, the Charter of the Hindu Faith. What Hinduism needed, amidst the
general disintegration of the modern era, was a rock where she could lie at anchor, an
authoritative utterance in which she might recognise her self. And this was given to her, in
these words and writings of the Swami Vivekananda.

to mind, most blessed father Leo. In truth, since you alone are everywhere considered as being the cause of my engaging in war, I cannot at any time fail
to remember you.

role of Christian preacher and teacher in order that we may enjoy the one-on-one relationship with our Savior that He designed.

Jewlarious: An Interactive Jewish Humor Book
The congregants were shocked when they entered the rabbi's study only to see him watching Al-Jazeera, the Arab satellite news station. "Rabbi," said the shul president. "How can you be
watching such anti-Semitic propaganda? Are you, God forbid, some sort of a self-hating Jew?"
"On the contrary," the Rabbi replied. "When I read the New York Times, I see such terrible things: that Israel is branded as the 'aggressor' despite the fact that it is defending itself
against terrorists, that rockets are raining down on Israeli cities, and now the violence has spread to Jews around the word -- such tzuras. But when I watch Al-Jazeera, I see so much
more: that the Jews control the American government, the banks, the media, and that we're even on the verge of taking over the entire world. Watching Al-Jazeera makes me feel a
whole lot better!"

Lay Morals
by Robert Louis Stevenson
It is not for nothing, either, that the umbrella has become the very foremost badge of modern civilization--the Urim and Thummim of respectability.
Its pregnant symbolism has taken its rise in the most natural manner. Consider, for a moment, when umbrellas were first introduced into this country,
what manner of men would use them, and what class would adhere to the useless but ornamental cane.

Letters on England is enlightening on several levels and a very interesting description of the society politics and science of England in the mid 18th century
from a French point of view. Voltaire being profoundly interested in all aspects of life and all types of knowledge provides an astounding account of sundry
aspects of England from his patently Voltaire style. He makes the book interesting by including his take on some of the peculiarities of English life.

MANIKANTAN – The Legend of Lord Ayyappa
by Ravi Shankar
Our story happened hundreds of years ago in Pandalam – a big and prosperous kingdom in the southern tip of India. The people of
Pandalam were honest and hard working. And their king, Rajasekara, was a good ruler and a powerful warrior. There was peace and happiness
everywhere. Everything looked almost perfect.

The real trouble with this world of ours is not that it is an unreasonable world, nor even that it is a reasonable one.
The commonest kind of trouble is that it is nearly reasonable, but not quite. Life is not an illogicality; yet it is a trap for logicians.
It looks just a little more mathematical and regular than it is; its exactitude is obvious, but its inexactitude is hidden; its wildness lies in wait.

Not so long ago (and maybe still in some parts of the world) religious, political and scientific power was held by the same
people. Their goal was simple: to hold the truth. The Spiritual leaders were the deciders regarding just about everything. It was a
time when new ideas coming out of new genius minds were set aflame… literally… at the stake. Fear from losing control was
present in the leader’s minds, as they used every possible means to keep the population away from thinking on their own. Their
goal was to propagate a set of beliefs that encouraged us to behave along with the group, using what I like to call “persuasive
armed marketing”. The fundamental goal seemed to be good at the time, since it is important to maintain a good social structure.
The difficulty arose when the individual feeling of freedom was hindered for the greater good of a few leaders, instead of the
greater good of the entire group...

Religions of Ancient China
by Herbert A. Giles
The problem of the universe has never offered the slightest difficulty to Chinese philosophers. Before the beginning of all things, there was Nothing.
In the lapse of ages Nothing coalesced into Unity, the Great Monad. After more ages, the Great Monad separated into Duality, the Male and Female Principles
in nature; and then, by a process of biogenesis, the visible universe was produced.
